FAQs
What do I talk about in the first session?
The first session is about getting to know one another. You will explore what has brought you to therapy, what is happening in your life right now that might be causing pain, difficulties or anything you wish to change. You will talk about what you hope to get from therapy and what goals you may have in mind.
How long do I need to go for therapy?
Everybody’s therapeutic journey is unique and depends on the individual, their needs and therapy goals. There is no “normal” amount of session and no ‘one size fits all’. Some people find relief in a few sessions, while others find more benefit in longer-term therapy. It takes time to make meaningful changes in one’s life, so patience is advised. I work with clients on average for 6-18 months depending on the needs and goals of therapy.
Can you make these feelings go away?
Psychotherapy will not get rid of any feelings in particular. Instead, psychotherapy is about engaging with these difficult emotions, exploring their source and impact on you. Once we stop trying to push these emotions away and acknowledge them, we can work on accepting, healing and making helpful changes.
How often should I come?
Generally, I recommend weekly sessions to build a relationship and build momentum. After some time, the frequency can be discussed based on needs and circumstances.
